The 1994 album ‘The Beacon Street Collection’ was No Doubt’s second studio album. Recorded after the commercial failure of their debut album, ‘No Doubt’, their record label, Interscope, had no plans to release a follow up. So the band recorded and produced the album themselves on Beacon Street, Anaheim. Gwen Stefani said the album was: "one of the best things we ever did because we were able to take some songs that would have probably gotten lost and document them" . After the album sold 100,000 copies, Interscope decided that they would release their next album, ‘Tragic Kingdom’ . Largely written by Gwen, after her brother Eric left the band to work as an animator on the ‘Simpson’s’, the albums personal account of the breakdown of her relationship with bassist Tony Kanal, and of being ‘Just a Girl’, went on to sell 16 million copies worldwide.
